When did you get into the sport of cycling? After Rehabbing my knee and suffering from Gulf War Syndrome I started riding my bike to and from work. Over time I got stronger and one day Mathew McChesney asked if I'd be interested in sponsoring a cycling team. The rest is history.
What do you see or wish for the future of cycling, locally and generally? I see cycling at a unique crossroads. Its recent popularity is unparalleled and its future is very bright. With the recent interest by the public in The Tour of California, our state has only shown that the American public has its eye on the future of cycling. Cycling in California has always been popular with its premier races and with American cyclists doing so well in Europe and abroad, interest is only growing and will only increase. Technological advances in cycling have grown exponentially making bikes more affordable and accessible to everyone of all ages. I do however have dreams sometimes that all the cars on the road are gone and we have all the highways to ride our bikes on.
Do you have any memorable race support moments? They're all memorable. Some proud, some tragic. The satisfaction is being there supporting them, yelling at them, motivating them, giving time checks, taking pictures, etc. Its the whole experience I love anything from checking in with all the riders before the race, making sure they have what they need for the race. Then the races begin and its all worry, and hoping. Worrying that they don't have the worst case scenarios happen, and hoping they finish well and upright. Only when the race is over can I relax.
If you were a character in a movie, which character would that be? Shotaro Kaneda - Akira
